A NEGATIVE ATTITUDE

THE INTRODUCTION

The Bible says, "Keep thy heart with all diligence, for out of it (the heart) are found the issues of life" (Proverbs 4:23). "For as a man thinketh in his heart so is he" (Proverbs 23:7). Now, if we be faithful Christians, we can not afford to have a negative attitude because that would make us to do the wrong things in life. Therefore, we must have a positive attitude in every thing that we do so that we can have the proper attitude in this life. Remember: All Scriptures which are used in this article will be taken from the King James Version of the Bible.

THE CAUSES OF A NEGATIVE ATTITUDE

1. Doubt will cause us to have a negative attitude. Doubt seems to engender doubt. If we begin to doubt the promises of God, we will become a doubled minded person. James said, "If any man lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all of ways" (James 1:5-8).

2. Fear will engender us to have a negative attitude. Fear seems to enhance fear. If we are fearful of failure, we will become an unfaithful servant of the Lord. Our Lord said, "Then he (the one talented man) which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art an hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast not strawed; And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast that is thine. His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed: Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury. Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents. For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away that which he hath. And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth" (Matthew 25:24-30).

3. Unbelief will enhance us to possess a negative attitude. Unbelief seems to engender unbelief. If we become an unbelieving person, we will depart from the living God. The Hebrew writer said, "Wherefore as the Holy Spirit said, Today if ye will hear his voice. Harden not you hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness: When your father tempted me, proved me, and saw my works forty years. Wherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, They do alway err in their hearts; and they have not know my ways. So I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest. Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. But exhort one another daily, which it is called today; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin" (Hebrews 3:7-13).

THE CURE FOR A NEGATIVE ATTITUDE

1. Believing the promises of God is the prescription for a negative attitude. If we believe the promises of God, we will walk humbly with the Lord our God. Paul asked, "And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? For ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean things; and I will receive you, And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty" (2 Corinthians 6:16-18). Paul said, "Therefore having these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God" (2 Corinthians 7:1).

2. Trusting in the Living God is the treatment for a negative attitude. If we trust in the Lord our God, we will follow His directions. Solomon said, "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths" (Proverbs 3:5-6).

3. Relying upon the powers of God is the antidote for a negative attitude. If we rely upon God's powers, we will be a faithful servant of the most high God. Jude said, "Now unto him (God) who is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy. To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen" (Jude 24-25).

4. Developing an obedient faith is the remedy for a negative attitude. If we develop an obedient faith, we will obey the commandments of God. The Bible says, "Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him" (Hebrews 5:8-9).

THE RESULTS OF A NEGATIVE ATTITUDE

Our Lord said, "Those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man. For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies. These are the things which defile a man" (Matthew 15:18-20).

1. A negative attitude can produce evil thoughts. If we constantly have evil thoughts, we will commit evil deeds. Paul said, "Be not deceived; evil communication corrupt good manners. Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame" (1 Corinthians 15:33-34).

2. A negative attitude can cause murders. If we dislike our brother long enough, we will at least try to murder his reputation. John said, "Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him. Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren" (1 John 3:15-16).

3. A negative attitude can engender adultery. If we should lust for a strange woman, we would at least be committing adultery with her in our heart. Peter said, "Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children" (2 Peter 2:14).

4. A negative attitude can bring about fornication. If we should long for another woman long enough, we would be trying to commit fornication with her. Paul said, "For ye know what commandments we gave you by the Lord Jesus. For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication: That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour" (1 Thessalonians 4:2-4).

5. A negative attitude can perform thefts. If we covet that which our neighbour has long enough, we would try to seal it from him. Paul said, "Let him that stole steal no more, but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth" (Ephesians 4:28).

6. A negative attitude can create false witness. Why would one person desire that another person testify to that which is false for him? If a person does that which is wrong and is about to be punished for it, he would want another person to testify falsely for him. Solomon said, "These six things doth the Lord hat: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood. An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift running to mischief. A False witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren" (Proverbs 6:16-18).

7. A negative attitude can produce blasphemies (evil speaking). Why does a person speak evil words? A person speaks evil words because his own works are evil. Jude said, "And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam prophesied of these, saying, Behold the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints, To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds, which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speech which ungodly sinner have spoken against him" (Jude 14-15).

THE APPLICATION

I. If we want to overcome a Negative Attitude in our own being of life, we must be willing to learn that the damnable heresies of the Sectarian World is what makes a Ranked Hierarchy to rule in a religious way upon the earth because they simply make the Clergy and the Laity Class of persons to exist in their man-made churches.

2. The New Testament Church of Christ must Scripturally teach that a Ranked Hierarchy can not rule in the Lord's Church upon the earth because each congregation of the New Testament Church must be autonomous (self-ruled), and under the leadership of its own qualified elders or bishops. For an example:

THE DAMNABLE HERESIES OF A RANKED HIERARCHY

Our Lord said, "Ye do err not knowing the Scriptures nor the Power of God" (Matthew 22:29).

1. A Ranked Hierarchy can not Scripturally RULE in the New Testament Church of Christ upon the earth because Christ (not a redeemed man) is the Head (the Ruler) of the Lord's Church. Paul said, "He (Christ) is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning,, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence", i. e. being first in power, rule, and authority (Colossians 1:18). (KJV) Therefore, since a Ranked Hierarchy can not Scripturally RULE in the New Testament Church of Christ upon the earth, this greatly enriches the whole being of our own Redeemed Nature of life because a redeemed man can not rule over the Lord's Church.

2. A Ranked Hierarchy can not Scripturally RULE in the New Testament Church of Christ upon the earth because each congregation of the Lord's Church must be autonomous (self-ruled) and under the leadership of its own qualified elders or bishops. Luke said, "And when they had ordained them elders (more than one person) in ever church, and had prayed, with fasting, they commended them to the Lord, on whom they believed" (Acts 14:23). (KJV) Therefore, since a Ranked Hierarchy can not Scripturally RULE in the New Testament Church of Christ upon the earth, this greatly exalts all aspects of our own Redeemed Nature of life because a presiding elder can not rule over other elders or bishops, nor can a presiding priest rule over other priests in the Lord's Church.

3. A Ranked Hierarchy can not Scripturally RULE in the New Testament Church of Christ upon the earth because all New Testament Christians are made to be kings and priest unto God so that the Lord can help them to rule over the forces of evil. John said, "Unto him (Christ) that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood. And hath make us kings and priest unto God and his Father; unto him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen" (Revelation 1:6-7). (KJV) Therefore, since a Ranked Hierarchy can not Scripturally RULE in the New Testament Church of Christ upon the earth, this greatly magnifies the total sum of our own Redeemed Nature of life because no redeemed king or priest can be any greater in power, rule, and authority than another redeemed king or priest in the Lord's Church.

4. A Ranked Hierarchy can not Scripturally RULE in the New Testament Church of Christ upon the earth because no one religious man can be first in power, rule, and authority which concerns his leadership in the Lord's Church. John said of Diotrephes who wanted to be first in power, rule and authority, "I wrote unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the preeminence (wanting to be first in power, rule and authority) among them, receiveth us not. Wherefore, if I come, I will remember his deeds which he doeth prating against us with malicious words; and not content therewith, neither doeth he himself receive the brethren, and forbiddeth them that would, and casteth them out of the church" (2 John 9-10). (KJV) Therefore, since a Ranked Hierarchy can not Scripturally RULE in the New Testament Church of Christ upon the earth, this greatly upgrades the whole being of our own Redeemed Nature of life because no one redeemed man can be first in power, rule, and authority in the Lord's Church.

5.
A Ranked Hierarchy can not Scripturally RULE in the New Testament Church of Christ upon the earth because we can not make any priest (a religious person) to be our Spiritual Father upon the earth. Our Lord said, "Call no man (a religious person) your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, who is in heaven" (Matthew 23:9). (KJV) Therefore, since a Ranked Hierarchy can not Scripturally RULE in the New Testament Church of Christ upon the earth, this greatly amplifies all aspects of our own Redeemed Nature of life because no one redeemed man can be our Spiritual Father upon the earth. For an example, we can not make any church leader to be called: Father Jones, Father, Brown, Father Burke, and etc.

6. A Ranked Hierarchy can not Scripturally RULE in the New Testament Church of Christ upon the earth because we can not made any redeemed man to be our Reverend upon the earth. The Psalmist said concerning the Divine Name of God, "Holy and reverend is his name" (Psalms 111:9). (KJV) Therefore, since a Ranked Hierarchy can not Scripturally RULE in the New Testament Church of Christ upon the earth, this greatly enhances the total sum of our own Redeemed Nature of life because we can not make any church leader to be called by this Religious Title. For illustrating purposes, we can not make any church leader to be called Rev. Jones, Rev. Brown, Rev. Burke and etc.

7. A Ranked Hierarchy can not Scripturally RULE in the New Testament Church of Christ upon the earth because we can not pray to any angel or a loved one who has departed this life. Paul said, "Let not man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility (making others to be greater than you are in a religious way) and worshiping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind" (Colossians 2:18). (KJV) Therefore, since a Ranked Hierarchy can not Scripturally RULE in the New Testament Church of Christ upon the earth, this greatly elevates the total sum of our own Redeemed Nature of life because only the Lord -not an angel nor a departed loved one - can help us to overcome the forces of evil.

8. A Ranked Hierarchy can not Scripturally RULE in the New Testament Church of Christ upon the earth because the distinction of the Clergy and the Laity Class of persons can not exist in matters of the New Testament Christianity. Paul said to the Church at Corinth which was making the characteristics of the Clergy and Laity Class of persons to rule in that Church, "For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men? For while one saith, I am of Paul, and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not carnal"? (1 Corinthians 3:3-4) (KJV) Therefore, since a Ranked Hierarchy can not Scripturally RULE in the New Testament Church of Christ upon the earth, this greatly extols all aspects of our own Redeemed Nature of life because the Clergy and the Laity Class of persons can not exist in matters of New Testament Christianity.

Our Lord said, "Ye shall know the truth, and THE TRUTH shall make you FREE", i. e. of sin (John 8:32).
